Many women are self-conscious or feel inadequate about the appearance of their breasts. Some women feel that they "look like a boy" because they never developed beyond an "A" cup. Many of our patients have had children. After pregnancy and/or breast feeding, their full, rounded breasts disappear, leaving them with flabby, sagging breast that have no contour on top. Some women have had breast implants put in many years ago, and have the hard, unnatural look that can gradually develop with aging silicone implants. With saline implants, a sudden deflation can seem like a real emergency. Other women may find that with age, weight gain, or a genetic "gift", they are endowed with overly large breasts that are heavy, uncomfortable, and unattractive.

Breast Surgeon Dr. Duncan specializes in breast surgery. Many of the women who have had surgery at Plastic Surgical Associates appreciate the sensitive and caring approach of the staff. We take pride in our ability to listen to each person's story, and to focus on what bothers you—and, if possible, to fix that feature. While the size of your breasts is obviously a major concern, the overall look and proportion are a strong focus as well. The goal for most women is some contour in a swimsuit or tank top, a nice round but natural shape, a dramatic but authentic contour, and a perky look.

Breast Augmentation

Most of our breast augmentation candidates have had children. The "empty" skin can be filled with an implant, normally placed under the pectoral muscle in order to retain a natural appearance, enhance the quality of mammograms, and to avoid the "orange in a sock" look that can occur with submammary implant placement. Also, women who have always been flat-chested are generally good candidates for breast augmentation. Dr. Duncan's style is to place as large an implant as is tasteful. We tend to create a classy, not trashy look.

Previous Breast Implants—Ruptured, Leaking, or Unattractive

Many women think that once they have implants put in, they are "stuck" with a certain look or size. Many gain weight with age, and the original implants are no longer appropriate. Some women had silicone implants put in many years ago, assuming they would last a lifetime. They won't; most implants have an 8 to 10 year lifespan. Signs of leaking or ruptured silicone implants include extreme firmness, pain in the breast region, upward migration of the implant, or a sudden change in the appearance of the breast. A leaking saline implant may suddenly go flat, or may deflate over a period of 2–3 days. Sometimes the implants have never looked good, or the size is not quite right.

Dr. Duncan has over 20 years' experience in fixing leaking, deflated, and unsatisfactory breast implants. At Plastic Surgical Associates, we understand how important it is to feel good about yourself. Some of our happiest patients no longer have to endure an unattractive appearance because of aging implants.

Breast Lift

Gravity rules the earth, and unfortunately, this includes our breasts. In some cases, a breast augmentation can correct minor sagging. However, if your skin actually rests on your upper abdomen, or your nipple / areola region is extremely droopy, you may need a breast lift. There are many varieties of breast lifts, which range from an incision just around the areola to a more extensive skin removal. Dr. Duncan's experience has been that contour is the most important goal; while some scars from a lift are inevitable, most women enjoy the perky look more than they dislike the scars.

Breast Reduction

Many women understand that bigger is not always better when it comes to breasts. With age, hormone changes, or genetics, quite a few women experience shoulder and back pain, heaviness, self-consciousness, and a "matronly look" that they feel is unattractive. Because overly large breasts get in the way, athletic activities may be limited. A breast reduction may be the solution to your discomfort. Dr. Duncan pays special attention to creating an attractive shape, and also reducing the excess of tissue under you arms, in order to give you the best look possible.
