A skin rejuvenation option with less temporary deformity and less downtime is a "microlaser" treatment. The microlaser is an erbium treatment requiring no anesthesia. A series of four microlaser treatments were used to correct the blotchy pigmentation and sun damage for the 56 year old gentleman. Frequently, Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Duncan alternates microlaser with Fraxel to get deeper pigmentation correction.

Erbium laser resurfacing is all this 60 year old has had done. Many patients are reluctant to undergo laser resurfacing because of the extremely long healing time and waxy or hypopigmented look resulting from CO2 lasers. The erbium is better for fine wrinkles, crepey skin, and sun damage. People with lots of wrinkles and those who want a major change benefit from a moderate treatment. These can take about a week to heal--meaning the patient can wear makeup and return to work. The skin remains pink for 3-5 weeks after treatment, but the results last ten years or more.
