This 34-year-old had drooping, empty breasts and a “pooch” of her abdomen after having children. Her nipples were very low, but she did not want a traditional breast lift with scars. She also chose to have a tummy tuck, as liposuction alone would not correct the muscle gap, or diastasis, that caused her abdomen to protrude. Dr. Duncan has pioneered and trademarked the PerkyLift™ procedure, which can be used in combination with a breast augmentation in order to create more of a lift than can be achieved with breast implants alone.

We frequently do combine these procedures, as we understand that one of the biggest drawbacks to restoration of your pre-baby body is “down” time. Because we can correct physical deformities that cannot be fixed with diet and exercise, we ask that you refrain from going to the gym for about six weeks in order to give your body time to heal. A variety of options is available, and the treatments can be combined or staged as many mom’s needs vary.

As a plastic surgeon, my goal is to give my patients a lifetime result. Of course, people do age with time. Breast implants, with care, can last over 30 years. Many of my tummy tuck patients come back 10-20 years later, lifting their shirt to show me how great they still look. If we can reinforce the framework of your body, the results can be very long lasting. The outer skin follows the understructure. This is why both diastasis repair and minimally invasive collagen framework restoration of the underlying soft tissue are so important.
I’ve done a lot of work in this area as I’m a clinical researcher and device development specialist for companies around the world. Scanning electron micrographs of Cool Sculpting patients over time show that very few fat cells die—they just get temporarily smaller. Both Body FX and Ultrashape (which we have) do a good job of fractional fat cell ablation; these cells do not come back. However, the correction usually takes 2-3 sessions. In thinner patients, great results can be seen. In people with a thick fat pad, a single session of liposuction is more likely to give a satisfying result.

There are many devices that claim to tighten skin without surgery. Some don’t do much and some work well. I published an article in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal that shows a 36% skin surface area shrinkage without skin excision using a device called the BodyTite. This treatment combines liposuction with bipolar radiofrequency soft tissue tightening using a subdermal approach. This procedure is minimally invasive. The only scars are needle pokes. Dramatic improvement, not perfection, can be achieved if you choose this option.
Dr. Duncan’s artistic style results in dramatic, yet natural improvements.
